Teaching: It's Harder Than It Looks

Teaching: It's Harder Than It Looks by Gerry Dee

As a high school English teacher, I’ve received more than my share of inspirational teacher gifts – from fake apples (desk ornaments?), to note cards, to inspirational plaques – but no gift has been more enjoyable or appropriate than the book, Teaching  It’s Harder Than It Looks by Gerry Dee.

A former teacher, now a stand up/TV comedian, Gerry Dee has a fresh and funny take on the trials and triumphs of working in education.  From his “how to catch a cheater” tips, to a chapter on staff meetings, I found myself laughing out loud!

Like so many who enter the teaching profession, Gerry Dee was full of idealism and illusions of grandeur, only to have those dreams dashed with a strong dose of reality. However, rather than becoming bitter and cynical with the system, like so many do, Gerry remains optimistic and enthusiastic, while sharing his wisdom learned through the hard knocks of experience.

A quick and easy read for student and teacher alike, this book definitely sits on the top of my nightstand!

  1. Sounds interesting! My mom was a teacher for many decades, and this sounds like something she'd enjoy!
